Potential opportunities for increased fuel cell deployment in Australia

A project with Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited, aimed at strategic research into the sustainability credentials of the BlueGen fuel cell product in relation to current built environment rating schemes..

The Sustainable Products and Packaging team of the Centre for Design completed a project with Ceramic Fuel Cells Limited (CFCL), aimed at strategic research into the sustainability credentials of the BlueGen fuel cell product in relation to current built environment rating schemes. CFCL’s technology has the potential to improve fuel conversion efficiencies and provide significant environmental benefits, BlueGen achieving up to 60% electrical efficiency using natural gas, potentially reducing carbon dioxide emissions by more than 60% compared to coal fired electricity generation. It essentially acts as a combined heat and power generator on a small scale, and has a range of applications.
